Tournament Officials To Donate Range Carts

Tournament and LPGA officials will donate a range cart Sunday to the Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) that will help the organization collect golf balls from its practice range with ease, once the cart is hooked to a range picker. Federation officials are currently collecting practice balls by hand each week following junior teaching clinics.

The presentation will be made at noon near the 1st tee box during the early portion of the final round of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.

“We were in desperate need of a cart for our range. We have the “picker machine,” but without a cart we have been picking up balls on the range by hand, and that’s a tedious job when you are talking about picking 2000 balls following our juniors’ practice,” said Yvonne Shaw, administrator of the Bahamas Golf Federation and Chair of the Women’s Division.

“This wonderful gift from the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic officials meets our most pressing need at our facility at the Baillou Hills Sports Complex in central Nassau. All of this together will help us preserve the future of golf for our children here in the Bahamas.”

Shaw accepted the gift on behalf of the BGF from tournament sponsors from Eldece Clarke, sports tourism manager with the Ministry of Tourism for the Bahamas and Tom Murray, president of Pure Silk Company. Bahamas Tourism and Pure Silk are sponsors for this inaugural tournament, which is the first LPGA event to be conducted in the Bahamas.

“We appreciate all of our sponsors, including the local support from Cable Bahamas,” added Matt Truax, tournament director for Global Golf Management.

The BGF was formed more than 25 years ago and today welcomes nearly 70 juniors to its weekly teaching practices. Georgette Rolle, a former BGF junior golfer and two-time Bahamas Women’s Amateur champion, was awarded a special exemption into the 144-player field this week.
